Trimbakeshwar Kshetra is a pilgrimage with one of twelve jyotirlingas, located about 30 km from Nashik. The origin of the sacred Godavari is also near Trimbak.
Sri Nivruttinath Maharaj was a 13th-century Marathi Bhakti saint, poet, philosopher and yogi of the Vaishnava Nath tradition. He was the eldest brother and the guru of Dnyaneshwar, the first Varkari saint, who wrote the famous “Dnyaneshwari”.
Nivruttinath was born in Apegaon village on the bank of Godavari river near Paithan in Maharashtra. One of the navnaths, Gahaninath had initiated Nivruttinath into the wisdom of the Nath tradition, a guru-shishya tradition. Subsequently, Nivruttinath initiated his brother Dnyaneshwar and become his Guru. Nivruttinath took samadhi at Trimbakeshwar in 1219. The Samadhi Mandir is situated in the lap of a green canopy which is mesmerizing during the rains.
The “Suvarna Pimpal” (sacred fig, Ficus religiosa) is considered very auspicious in Nath Tradition, as it was worshipped by Sant Dnyaneshwar in Alandi. The Satsang Foundation’s volunteers received permission from the administrators of the samadhi temple to plant a suvarna pimpal within the premises of the temple, under the auspices of the Aviral Godavari Mission.
